Windows Phone 7.5 Mango launched to compete with Android and the iPhone

• 01/10/2011

Efforts are now under way to take as much smartphone market share as possible away from the major manufacturers like Google and Apple as Microsoft releases its latest mobile OS called Windows Phone 7.5 Mango on almost all WP7 handsets.

The changes that Microsoft has made to its new WP Mango OS are being seen by many as a move in the right direction, although there have been comments made about how closely the new OS resembles webOS. Among the features that have been ‘borrowed’ from webOS is the card layout multitasking feature which greatly improves users’ ability to switch from app to app.

Apart from the multitasking feature there are a whole range of new additions to WP 7.5 Mango that either offer the same as webOS or improve on it significantly.

This new upgrade is an improvement in almost every way from the previous WP 7 OS with far quicker access to apps and a much better screen layout but it isn’t just the look and feel that has been tweaked.

Great features like the grouping of contacts, facial recognition for pictures and the integration of social networking services like twitter and Facebook mean that this latest mobile OS from Microsoft is really raising its game to compete with the other mainstream OS’s.
