Windows Phone handsets may be getting a chip transplant when Nokia starts pmping out their WP7 devices later this year, and into 2012. Currently, Qualcomm is the majority chip maker inside WP7 devices, but that may change as STMicroelectronics’ Carlo Bozotti told Forbes that the ST-Ericsson U8500 dual-core chips may find themselves inside the Nokia WP7 models, with a new and improved model chip to hit the insides later in 2012.

This seems contrary to reports of the chips which will currently launch with the Nokia lineup of WP7 smartphones being Qualcomm’s, but that doens’t mean that they won’t make the switch in 2012 devices. We’ll have to wait and see.

Are you looking forward to the line of Nokia WP7 smartphones coming soon? Do you think they’ll hold a candle to the iPhone or Android smartphones? Let us know in the comments.
