Samsung: the next version of Bada OS is in the works and must continue to evolve

• 16/10/2011

The next generation of the proprietary mobile operating system from Samsung, the Bada OS, is currently being developed, a report from Bloomberg notes.

The confirmation that the next version of Bada is in the works comes from Samsung Mobile Solutions Center chief Lee Ho Soo, who confirmed the development of the Samsung OS in an interview, the publication says.

According to Bloomberg, the executive said that Bada “must continue to evolve”.

“We’re doing a lot of things to provide more for users of Bada-based phones,” the publication quotes the Samsung executive saying at the World Knowledge Forum in Seoul on Thursday.

The news comes after Samsung was reported to have had high-level meetings in the past in light of Google’s planned acquisition of Motorola.

In the meetings, Samsung executives were reportedly told to strengthen alternatives to the Google-backed Android OS as the internet giant is set to directly compete with manufacturers like Samsung when it finalizes its Motorola acquisition.

Samsung itself is the biggest manufacturer of smartphones loaded with Android.

Samsung aims to make Bada a viable alternative to Android which currently dominated the smartphone market in terms of market share.
