86% of us use our phones while watching TV – multitasking baby!
We know how bad TV programming can be, like we all want to watch re-runs of Two and a half Men all day long….am I right? am I right? Turns out, many of us feel the same way, 86% of us in fact. Either we just can’t help but touch our phones all the time secretly hoping someone texted us, or the options we have on TV are so terrible, we need to fill the void still left in our brains that we had hoped TV would fill, but left us disappointed enough to have to resort to user our phones while watching TV….”breathe”.
The study queried over 8,000 people from ages 13-64 about their internet usage. 5,313 of those individuals own an internet connected mobile device, smartphone, or Tablet. 92% of the age group 13-24 admitted to using their mobile internet devices while watching TV. 33% were using Mobile Apps (games, wiki, imdb, etc), 37% were online, and 40% were using social networking apps like twitter and Facebook.
This is just another report showing the growing trend of people telling everybody what is going on from their eyes every moment they think of it. Also, when alerts go off on most peoples phones, they check it right away, text, RSS, email, tweets, the list goes on and on. These insights can be as frightening as they are shocking, as we begin to see a huge shift in the way people multitask throughout the day, even when trying to relax. So, help us TV….make better shows!
