We’ll start by saying that this is not official, but rumors have it that the iPad 2 backlight leakage issues may be attributed to faulty LG panels used in the manufacturing. The main reason that you don’t see this on all iPad 2 devices is because LG ran low on panels, so Apple was forced to use other resources to keep up production of the iPad 2, namely Samsung’s parts.

Samsung’s panels did not produce the backlight issues as seen with LG panels. So, some iPad 2′s have LG faulty panels, while others may have Samsung panels of superior quality. Again, this is all speculation, and not confirmed Apple.
