iPad 2 launch day: the goods

• 11/03/2011

Happy Friday everyone!  Or should we say, Happy iPad 2 Launch Day!

Pricing

Pricing depends on what version of the iPad 2 you buy and whether or not you choose a WiFi + 3G model.  Here’s how it breaks down:

16GB
32GB
64GB
iPad WiFi $499.00 $599.00 $699.99
iPad 3G (AT&T / Verizon) $629.99 $729.99 $829.99

If you opt for a 3G version of the iPad 2 then remember that there are monthly data fees from the carrier.  Both AT&T and Verizon don’t require contracts, which is a bonus, however their pricing varies so you’ll want to weigh your usage and options carefully.

Purchasing

This time around Apple has made purchasing an iPad 2 a bit easier for everyone involved.  Both online orders and in-store purchases begin on the same day – today, March 11th.  In-stores (Apple Store, Best Buy, Target, Walmart, AT&T or Verizon store) at 5 PM local time.  The lines will probably be epic, so come prepared with some time-wasters.

If you don’t mind waiting for your device to ship to you then you can go the online route.  Just order directly from Apple.com starting at 1AM PT. Walmart, AT&T, Verizon Wireless and Best Buy will also make the iPad 2 available to purchase in their online stores.

The Goodies

You can’t just buy an iPad 2 silly.  You need all the swag to go with it.

Like the new Smart Cover which retails at just $39 to start for the polyurethane version.  With a self-aligning magnetic hinge, the ability to become a stand, and automatically wake or put your iPad to sleep whenever you open or close it, it’s a pretty cool accessory.  The coolest thing? It has a microfiber lining that cleans your screen each tip you flip it open.  WANT!

Another cool new tool from Apple is the Digital AV Adapter ($39) which brings HDMI-out capabilities to the iPad 2.  The 30-pin connector lets you connect the Tablet to your HDTV and allows you to mirror your entire display while simultaneously charging your iPad 2.  Nice.

The Apps

The most-talked about apps that were unveiled when the iPad 2 was announced were FaceTime, iMovie, and Garage Band and we’re pretty sure that those will be downloaded like crazy the minute people boot up their new tablets tonight.

Well, that’s about it for now.  Share with us your plans for camping out to get your iPad 2, or your first impressions when you hold it in your hands tonight.  Happy iPad 2′ing!
