Best Buy holding available iPads in stock from customers – read why

• 08/04/2011

If you go to Best Buy to grab an Apple iPad2, you may be told that you can’t get the iPad you were looking for, as Best Buy is informing their staff to hold iPads for Pre-order pickup only, even if they have remaining iPads in store. Someone leaked out the internal staff message to BGR, who also obtained internal communication from a Californian Best Buy location on Thursday where management instructed staff to hold all iPads except for pre-orders. Do you think Apple would have something to say about this? We do.

This is what the text to some BB staff said;

NewsFlash: ipads cannot be sold according to BBY. All ipads except for preorders MUST be held until further notice. Cant tell customers were holding them either

Best Buy had responded back to BGR after a few attempts to get a comment on all of this, which they finally stated via email the following;

Best Buy continues to receive iPad 2 inventory from Apple on a regular basis. As we’ve said previously, we are fulfilling customer reservations first. Our stores have been asked to temporarily hold non-reserved iPad 2 inventory for an upcoming promotion. This is a customary practice for us when there are supply constraints. Best Buy enjoys a great partnership with Apple, and we’re delighted by customer response to iPad 2

Should Best Buy be allowed to misinform their potential iPad 2 customers and hold you back from buying one? Let us know in the comments.
