Apple plans to have NFC(Near Filed Communication) support in the next generation iPad2 and iPhone5 according to a report made to Bloomberg Tuesday morning. The NFC software and hardware chip will be built-in to the devices, which are also said to be launching this year, based on a statement from Richard Doherty, director of Envisioneering Group.

Apple holds several patents with NFC technology, so it’s no surprise they start using it after Android Gingerbread started making headlines with new NFC apps already hitting the market. It’s hard to say how this technology will take off since mobile payments has been left up to the vendors. Apps, and other mobile payment methods have been around for a little while now, such as Mastercard PayPass, which in the grand scheme of things was /is a massive failure. One thing is certain though, with Apple and Google pushing NFC payment methods built in to their devices, this will get the attention it deserves.
