Apple chalks up Guinness Book record titles

• 17/05/2011

Joining the elite ranks of obscure record holders such as ‘World’s Longest Fingernails’ and ‘Longest Neck’ or shortest, tallest, fattest, largest something-or-other is Apple’s iPhone 4 and the App Store.

They now lay claim to four World Record titles in the Guinness Book of World Records. One record for the iPhone 4 and three titles for the App Store.

The titles it claimed:

  • Fastest-selling game portable, with 1.5 million units sold on Day 1 (dethroning the PSP, which pushed 200k units off the starting line)
  • The App Store grabbed “Most Popular Application Marketplace” (with 6.5 billion downloads since Summer 2008), “Largest Downloadable Video Game Store” (with 37,362 games), and “Largest Launch Lineup of Any Gaming System” (with 500 games at launch)

Pretty impressive, right?

Congrats Apple on making it big. Because, let’s face it, you’re nothing till you’ve made it into the Guinness Book.
