Woman nearly died as a result of Verizon’s 911 issues

• 26/02/2011

A few days ago, we told you about the issues Verizon had with the 10,000+ dropped calls they had during the winter storm in Washington. Now it appears that matters may be worsening for Verizon as they try to clean up the PR mess as a woman reportedly almost lost her life due to the dropped call issue, as she watched her house burn to the ground. Carmela D’Antuono was affected at the age of 94, and was rescued by neighbors from her home as she was trapped by the flames. Police and firefighters were unable to be reached to help this woman due to the issue over reception from Verizon during the storm.

We’re glad to see good deeds still happen today! The FCC had asked that Verizon conduct an investigation over the dropped calls issue and report their findings. Check out the video below for the local news story about this incident.
