ViewSonic ViewPad 10Pro at MWC 2011 – dual-boot Win7 and Android

• 14/02/2011

This Tablet, although having a somewhat unpopular ancestry, could be a great idea if tasked properly. The enterprise market comes to mind immediately when I think of the possibilities this Tablet could show off, especially when booting into Windows 7, as most enterprise networks consist of Microsoft technology stacks. Then having the versatility of Android apps on the same Tablet in a dual booting environment will have its advantages as well. They thought of that, most likely why they gave it the “Pro” title.

The ViewSonic ViewPad 10Pro is a 10inch display touchscreen dual-booting between Windows 7 Home Premium and Android 2.2 Froyo (we hope they up that to Android 3.0 and skip Gingerbread soon). The screen has 1024×600 resolution, Intel Atom Processor innards and a traditional weak-plastic feel to the frame.

A few notes on my take here;

  1. This Tablet should have a better hardware framing, if its going to go to the workplace – it’ll get banged up faster by staff deployments.
  2. If you’re giving it a Pro title, then do it justice and give it Windows 7 Professional as an OS option, not Home Premium.
  3. get Android 3.0 on it right-away, whether you wait for it to come out as an update from the manufacturer or find a custom ROM SDK for Honeycomb.
  4. Price this under the BlackBerry PlayBook if you want it to be adopted by enterprise markets.
