UK mobile phone operator O2 has posted a “coming soon” page for the Samsung Galaxy W, which is an updated version of the Samsung Galaxy S and slots between the latter and the Samsung Galaxy S2.
More importantly, it will almost certainly be the smartphone from Samsung’s portfolio that will go face to face against the iPhone 5 Lite or the iPhone 4GS.
The handset comes with a 3.7-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, a super LCD rather than an AMOLED one; That’s a tad smaller than the Galaxy S but on par with the competition like the Desire S or the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo.
The SoC however is one of the fastest single core on the market, a Qualcomm Snapdragon clocked at 1.4GHz which should run circles around the Hummingbird one in the Galaxy S.
Other features include Samsung’s latest Touchwiz 4.0 user inteface, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 512MB RAM, 4GB onboar dstorage, a five megapixel rear camera with HD recording and a front VGA one, 440 hours standby on 3G and up to 470 minutes talktime.
The phone will be available from O2 from September onwards and will very likely replace the Galaxy S altogether.
