NVIDIA Tegra2 dual-core chips just started to make their way into mobile devices this year, and we now have a clear picture of what NVIDIA has in store over the course of the next 4 years. From the image below, they plan to have Quad-core chips called “KAL-EL” (Superman’s birth name) in devices this year. The KAL-EL chip also is stated to show a 5x increase in performance over the Tegra 2 dual-core chip! Wow.

Qualcomm made similar statements this week about its plans to launch Quad-Core chips, but theirs won’t be out until 2012. If you notice the chart below, the top of the list of chips is called “STARK” (after Tony Stark – AKA IronMan), you get the picture here. The coolest thing though is that they predict by 2014, NVIDIA’s mobile chips will have almost a 100x increase in performance than the dual-core chips we see right now.
