Motorola to upgrade Xoom to 4G LTE even if rooted

• 06/03/2011

Motorola made a cool announcement to all Xoom Tablet-users on the Verizon Wireless network.  They will be performing the 4G upgrade all tablets, even if they’ve already been unlocked or rooted.  Android tinkerers everywhere (on the Verizon Wireless network, anyways) can do a happy dance!

Though they can’t guarantee successful software updates on devices that have been modified from the original factory OS settings, we think it’s pretty darn cool that they’re even willing to try.  To assist with a potentially successful software upgrade Motorola is asking all rooted Xoom users to rollback to the original factory installed software and relock their tablets.

If you can’t/don’t want to do this, they’ll still attempt to update the software, and if that isn’t successful, then at the very least they will install the new 4G LTE modem.

Two-thumbs up and a high-five to Motorola for being so open-minded.
